In den USA wird es eine weitere randomisierte Doppelblind-Studie geben, zurzeit läuft die Rekrutierung der Teilnehmer.

Anvisiert sind 180 Patienten, alles Veteranen der Streitkräfte mit Hepatitis-C und mit Alkoholproblem. Bei Personen, welche die medizinischen Hilfsdienste von Veteranenorganisationen in Anspruch nehmen, ist Hepatitis-C drei bis vier Mal so verbreitet wie in der übrigen Bevölkerung. Bei etwa 50 bis 60 % dieses Personenkreises besteht das Risiko einer Verschlimmerung der Leberschädigungen bis zum Endstadium. Alkohol trägt wesentlich zum Fortschreiten dieses Krankheitsbildes bei.

Der Beobachtungszeitraum wird 6 Monate betragen. Leider finde ich keine Angaben, ob die Studie hinsichtlich Baclofen-Dosierung ergebnisoffen ist oder ob es eine Obergrenze gibt. Mit Ergebnissen rechnet man Mitte 2014.
